Cytoskyrins and Cytosporones Produced by Cytospora sp. CR200: Taxonomy, Fermentation and Biological Activities

In screening endophytic fungi from Costa Rica for bioactivity, fungal culture CR200, isolated from a buttonwood tree, was found to contain compounds that initiate DNA damage in a test strain of E. coli (Biochemical Induction Assay, BIA) and inhibit growth of Gram-positive bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains. Two new bisanthraquinones (cytoskyrins A and B) and five new related octak...

Study on Activity and Stability of Proteases from Bacillus Sp. Produced by Submerged Fermentation

Objective: Investigations were carried out to isolate bacteria from saline-alkali soils and determined optimized alkaline protease activity and stability produced by a wild strain of bacillus sp. in submerged fermentation (SMF). Methods: Optimum temperature for enzyme activity in the crude extract was 40 ◦C at a pH between 8.0 and 9.0. The studies on pH stability showed that the enzyme...

Diperamycin, a new antimicrobial antibiotic produced by Streptomyces griseoaurantiacus MK393-AF2. I. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation, physico-chemical properties and biological activities.

Antibacterial antibiotics, diperamycin (1) was produced in the culture broth of Streptomyces griseoaurantiacus MK393-AF2. Various spectroscopic analyses of 1 suggested that 1 belonged to a member of cyclic hexadepsipeptide antibiotic. Antibiotic 1 had potent inhibitory activity against various Gram-positive bacteria including Enterococcus seriolicida and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aur...

Kalimantacins A, B and C, novel antibiotics from Alcaligenes sp. YL-02632S. I. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation and biological properties.

Novel antibacterial antibiotics, kalimantacins A, B and C, have been isolated from the fermentation broth of Alcaligenes sp. YL-02632S. In this paper, the taxonomy of the producing strain, fermentation, isolation and biological activities of kalimantacins are reported. Kalimantacins inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis including multiple-drug resistant strains.
